Phlebotomy Tech

Phlebotomy is the practice of drawing blood from patients and taking the blood specimens to the laboratory to prepare for testing. Phlebotomy technicians work in hospitals, physician offices, and other health facilities, and are important members of the clinical laboratory team.

This course combines 98 hours of classroom instruction and 120 hours at an off-site externship for a comprehensive learning experience totaling 210 hours. Externships are from Monday to Friday, 8am - 5pm.

Degrees & Certificates

This program will prepare you to take the Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) exam offered by National Healthcareer Association (NHA), the Phlebotomy Technician Certification (PBT) exam offered by The ASCP Board of Certification, or the Registered Phlebotomy Technician (RPT) offered by American Medical Technology (AMT).

Program Information

Admission Requirements

Individuals must meet the following requirements for admission:

  • Have earned a high school diploma, GED, or High School Equivalency Certificate.
  • Be a minimum of 18 years old.
  • Have a photo ID and a Social Security card.
  • Be willing to complete a criminal history background check (individuals with any infractions that would prohibit state certification will not be admitted into the program).
  • Be willing to provide evidence of the following required immunizations via Castlebranch electronic compliance tracker:
    •  (Tuberculosis skin test, flu shot, Hepatitis B series vaccine, Tetanus, 2 Measles, Rubella, 1 Mumps, and 2 Varicella, covid-19 vaccine or positive titer).
    • Provide proof of completion of the CPR Course for Healthcare Providers, must meet the requirements of the American Heart Association (available through BCE).
  • Prior to the beginning of externships:
    • Be willing to provide the results from a drug screening test prior to the beginning of clinical rotations.
Application Procedure

The Phlebotomy Technician course is offered three times a year and each class size is limited to the first 15 students who have completed the application process.

  • At registration, be prepared to pay for the course (must make an initial payment on the payment plan, pay if full, or provide proof of funding).

Tuition & Payment Options

Total Cost: $2,300 (includes textbooks, drug screen & NHA exam voucher)

Payment Plan: $2,330  Total Cost (includes tuition, textbooks, exam voucher, and a $30 one-time payment plan fee)

The first payment of $490 is due at the time of registration and includes the one-time $30 fee. Four additional payments of $460 are due monthly. Cash payments cannot be used to set up payment plans; payment plans are set up online. Checking and routing information is preferred.  Credit and debit card payments are accepted but additional fees apply.

Financial Aid:
TPEG: Eligible students may receive financial aid for 50% of the tuition provided funding is available. The first payment of $463 is required at registration. A completed 2023-2024 FAFSA is required:

Scholarship: Students may be eligible for the Direct Your Destiny (DYD) Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Scholarship. More information can be found here:
