Certified Nurse Aide

This course is designed to prepare students for the scenarios they will face as a Patient Care Technician. Topics in this course include working within the healthcare team, ethics, laws, communication, understanding patients, culture, patient rights, body structure and function, and growth and development. Participants will also learn safety, infection control, moving and transfers, vital signs, patient assessment, care, comfort, hygiene, and grooming, nutrition and fluids, elimination and respiration skills, and care of the surgical patient. Plus, advanced skills for Patient Care Technicians such as specimen collection, phlebotomy procedures and electrocardiography (ECG) procedures.

This course meets for 128 hours of in-person instruction. Students may be eligible to complete an off-site externship of 48 hours, Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm.

Degrees & Certificates

Upon successful completion, graduates will receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to apply for certification offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

Program Information

Admission Requirements

Individuals must meet the following requirements for admission:

  • Has earned a high school diploma, GED, or High School Equivalence Certificate.
  • Be a minimum of 18 years old.
  • Has a photo ID and a social security card.
  • Be willing to complete a criminal history background check (individuals with any infractions that would prohibit state certification will not be admitted into the program).
  • Be willing to provide evidence of required immunizations (Tuberculosis skin test, flu shot, Hepatitis B series vaccine, Tetanus, 2 Measles, Rubella, 1 Mumps, and 2 Varicella, covid-19 vaccine or positive titer).
  • Provide proof of completion of the CPR Course for Healthcare Providers, must meet the requirements of the American Heart Association (available through WCE).
  • Before the beginning of the externship, students must:
    • Be willing to provide the results from a drug screening test (wait on the instructor to request before completing).
Application Procedure

The Patient Care Technician course is offered twice a year, and each class size is limited to the first 25 students who have completed the application process.

  • At registration, be prepared to pay for the course (must make an initial payment on the payment plan, pay if full, or provide proof of funding).

Tuition & Payment Options

Total Cost: $2,895 (includes textbooks, supplies, drug screen, and certification exam voucher)

Payment  Plan: $2,925 Total Cost (includes $30 one-time payment plan fee)

The first payment of $753.75 is due at the time of registration and includes the one-time $30 fee. Three additional payments of $723.25 are due monthly. Cash payments cannot be used to set up payment plans; payment plans are set up online. Checking and routing information is preferred.  Credit and debit card payments are accepted but additional fees apply.

Financial Aid: TPEG Eligible students may receive financial aid for 50% of the tuition based on the availability of funds. Apply at www.studentaid.gov.
The first payment will be required at registration.

Scholarship: Students may be eligible for the Direct Your Destiny (DYD) Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Scholarship. For more information see Financial Assistance.
