Research Summary

My dissertation, On the Fictionalism of Aristotle’s Philosophy of Mathematics, focuses on Aristotle’s view of geometry. In the dissertation, I examine whether Aristotle’s philosophy of mathematics is a preferable alternative to mathematical Platonism in the context of contemporary debates in mathematical fictionalism.

My anticipated research will delve further into Aristotle’s theory of number. Most commentators have thought that it is easier for Aristotle to hold a realistic theory of number than it is for him to espouse realism in geometry. My work will contest that view by showing that Aristotle maintains a kind of mathematical fictionalism in both his view of geometry and theory of number.
