“This annual reception is one small way to celebrate the wonderful people and organizations who have invested in the lives of Temple College students. “It was a great pleasure to recognize Kevin and Hope Koch, Kent MacDougall, Fernando Jonse and Rhonda Miller, and our student AnneMarie Gorrell with our Lifelong Leopard Award,” said Tyler Jermstad, president of the Temple College Foundation Board. “These recipients have been incredible supporters and ambassadors for Temple College and have invested their time, energy and resources on behalf of Temple College students. Their commitments to the College have changed lives, and we wanted to do something special to honor them.”

Kevin and Hope Koch are administrators for the Callaway Foundation, which provides $7,500 each year to C.H. Yoe High School seniors to attend Temple College. Since 2004, the Foundation has helped more than 100 students reach their education goals. Hope Koch has served on the Temple College Foundation Board for four years.

Kent MacDougall served as a mathematics professor at Temple College from 1975-2008. He and his wife, Marilyn, began the Gina MacDougall Memorial Endowment in 2011 to honor their daughter. The scholarship benefits students with the desire to succeed in education or child development. As part of an endowment completion initiative, the MacDougalls’ support led to five endowments being fully funded. This led to nine additional scholarships being awarded the past two years.

Fernando Jonse launched the Lana Villarreal Jonse Scholarship in 2018 to honor his late wife, Lana, who had earned a master’s degree in nursing. Rhonda Miller joined Fernando Jonse to organize and host annual barbecue cookoffs with games, concerts and family fun to raise money for Lana’s scholarship. Fernando and Rhonda have raised more than $20,000 in four years to assist Temple College nursing students.

AnneMarie Gorrell is pursuing an associate degree in psychology. She plans to finish her degree program in December. Gorrell has a passion for the arts, writes poems for Leopard Tales, is a member of Art Club and has been a student worker on campus for a year. She is an inaugural member of Temple College’s Student Ambassador program and is a positive representative for all things Temple College. She is always willing to help and is a team player. She plans to transfer to a four-year university.
