Two different jazz groups will perform at Temple College Oct. 31 and Nov. 2.

On Sunday, Oct. 31, the Temple College Jazz Ensemble will perform at 3 p.m. in the auditorium of the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center. The group will play a variety of big band styles, ranging from Count Basie-style swing to modern arrangements of jazz standards. Featured composers/arrangers will include Sammy Nestico, Dave Eshelman, Wayne Shorter, Oliver Nelson and Gene Thorne.

The Temple College Jazz Ensemble is directed by Colin Mason and includes both Temple College students and community musicians. This concert is $5 for adults and free for students and members of the Temple College Alumni and Friends Association.

On Tuesday, Nov. 2, the Temple Jazz Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Performing Arts Center. The program for this concert will also feature music from the classic Count Basie Orchestra to more modern sounds of Vince Mendoza and Bob Mintzer. The orchestra will premiere two new compositions by members Lee “Sparky” Thomason and Randy Zimmerman. The featured soloist will be guest percussionist Ian Fry.

This concert is $10 for adults and free for students and members of the Temple College Alumni and Friends Association.

The Temple Jazz Orchestra is sponsored by Temple College and directed by Dr. Benjamin Irom. It is the premier jazz ensemble in central Texas and includes the best professional jazz musicians and educators from throughout the area.
