Starr Jacobs finished second in the nation for points per game in 2021. Starr Jacobs finished second in the nation for points per game in 2021.For the past two years, Starr Jacobs has worn jersey #1 for the Temple College women’s basketball team. And for good reason.

This year, the 6’2” forward from Dallas finished 2nd in the nation for points per game (23.6), 17th for rebounds per game (10.6), and 11th in steals (69). She was named to the NTJCAC All-Conference Team as well as the NJCAA Region V All-Region Team.

Most recently, Jacobs was one of 10 players in the country named to the WBCA 2-year College Coaches’ All-American Team as well as the 2020-2021 World Exposure Report NJCAA Division 1 Women’s Basketball All-American Team.

“We are very proud and excited for Starr,” said coach Amber Taylor. “This is a huge accomplishment and one she has worked hard for.”

Taylor believes Jacobs is the first women’s player from Temple College to be named to the WBCA All-American Team. One former player – Mikalya Blount – made the WBCA Honorable Mention All-American Team, but no players have made the top 10 All-American team.

Jacobs said she came to Temple College to make a name for herself outside of her hometown. “Previously I was most known for going to Duncanville High School,” she said.

Jacobs’ success at Temple College has earned her a scholarship to continue playing basketball at The University of Texas at Arlington in the fall. She said her goal is to follow in the footsteps of UT-Arlington coach Shereka Wright, who was the only three-time All-American in Purdue women’s basketball history and went on to play in the WNBA. Wright was named head coach at UT-Arlington last year after previous coaching stints at Vanderbilt, Alabama and Texas Tech.

“Playing basketball at UTA could get me out the door,” Jacobs said. “If I am given the opportunity to play at the next level after college I will take it, but if it is my time to hang up my jersey I will definitely pursue my second dream in coaching.”
