The award was presented April 22 at the Workforce Solutions Annual Awards Ceremony.

Temple College was nominated for the award by Julia Cardona, a Workforce Solutions staff member at the Central Texas Workforce Center in Rockdale.

When 400 people in Milam County filed for unemployment in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Business and Continuing Education Division sought and received grant funding to assist with retraining. More than 100 employees at four companies took advantage of courses such as Frontline Leadership, CompTIA Certification, Construction Trades, and related business-driven training.

“The programs increased production and operations of every participating company while simultaneously improving the employability of every trainee,” Cardona said.

In addition to the employee retraining programs, Temple College has been providing High School Equivalency (HSE) courses for Milam County residents. The HSE program in Milam County has successfully graduated more than 15 attendees, and several of these have gone on to receive an associate degree and/or certification.

“Temple College supports Milam County’s growth strategies, as well as that of the whole Central Texas area,” Cardona said. “The college’s programs open up a world of opportunities for individuals participating in them. Because of Temple College, Milam County residents are positioned to obtain better paying jobs, experience less unemployment, and enjoy greater professional advancements. Temple College fosters the concept of education as a lifelong improvement process.”
