The Temple College Orchestra will give its first concert under the direction of Dr. Alexander Corbett on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center.

Nan Cryar Nan CryarThe featured piece for the concert will be Clara Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor, which the orchestra is performing in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth. The featured soloist for the piece will be Temple College music student Nan Cryar.

The program also will include the overture to “Nabucco,” the opera that launched Giuseppe Verdi’s illustrious operatic career, Jean Sibelius’ “Andante Festivo” and two works written for massive performing forces: the “Procession of the Sardar” by Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov and the “March to the Scaffold” by Hector Berlioz. It will close with the “Petite Suite” by Claude Debussy.

Admission to the concert is $5 for adults. Children and students are free. Proceeds will support scholarships for music students at Temple College.
