Temple College students Khai Nguyen and Gladys Uwakweh were named to the 2019 All-Texas Academic Team.
The All-Texas Academic Team awards are given annually to two-year college students who are nominated by their faculty members for outstanding academic achievement, community service and leadership. They are sponsored by the Texas Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), an international honor society for community college students. This year’s recipients were honored at a ceremony at the University of Texas at Arlington in April.
Nguyen studied art at Temple College and is now studying computer science and game development at Texas A&M University in College Station. His goal is to become a software developer or a game developer.
While at Temple College, he received the Art Scholarship and helped with the art exhibitions put on by the Visual Arts Department.
Uwakweh recently graduated from the Associate Degree Nursing program and is now working at a state facility in Austin that serves individuals with intellectual disabilities. She hopes to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner.
While at Temple College, Uwakweh was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and ADNSO, the organization for associate degree nursing students. She received several other awards and scholarships, including the Dr. Lee Crossley Memorial Scholarship from the Temple College Foundation, the Rotary Club of Temple Scholarship, and Phi Theta Kappa’s 2019 Hurst Review NCLEX® Scholarship, which is designed to assist Phi Theta Kappa nursing students who plan to take the NCLEX® nursing licensure exam.
Uwakweh also was named an Associate Degree Nursing program Attendance All Star for complete clinical attendance in spring 2019.
