Glenda Barron Glenda BarronTemple College President Dr. Glenda O. Barron announced today (Feb. 19, 2018) that she plans to retire from the college Dec. 31, 2018.

Dr. Barron has been president of Temple College since July 2008. She is the 10th person to serve as president of the college.

Highlights of Dr. Barron’s presidency include:

  • The construction of several new buildings on campus, including the Science Lab Building (2009), the Academic Center (2013), the Carpenter Rehearsal Hall (2012) and the Student Success Center (2016). A permanent facility for the East Williamson County Higher Education Center was also constructed.
  • Renovations were completed on several buildings, including the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center and the Instructional Services Center.
  • Temple College joined the Achieving the Dream program and was named a Leader College in 2012.
  • Several new programs were added to meet community needs. Among these is a program that allows students to earn a bachelor’s degree in music through a partnership with Texas A&M University – Central Texas.

“Dr. Barron set Temple College on a great course,” said Katie Burrows, chair of the Board of Trustees.

A native of Joaquin, Texas, Dr. Barron earned a certificate from Panola Junior College and a bachelor’s degree in business education from the University of Houston. She also earned a master’s degree in business education from McNeese State University and a doctoral degree in higher education administration from The University of Texas.

Prior to being named president of Temple College, Dr. Barron spent 20 years at the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board – first as a program director, and later as assistant to the Commissioner of Higher Education, Assistant Commissioner for Community and Technical Colleges, Associate Commissioner for Participation and Success, and Assistant Commissioner for Student Advancement and Private Institution Oversight. She also spent 11 years on the faculty of Lamar State College in Port Arthur (now Lamar University).

In addition to serving as president of Temple College, Dr. Barron has served on board of the Texas Association of Community Colleges (TACC), the Texas Success Center and the Dana Center at UT-Austin.

The Temple College Board of Trustees plans to hire a search firm to assist with finding the next president.
