Two hundred Leaders of Promise Scholarships are awarded nationwide each year, and 25 of these are earmarked for members of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society who are active personnel or veterans of the U.S. military. The scholarships are sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.
Military Leaders of Promise Scholars are selected based on outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated leadership potential. This year’s recipients were selected by a panel of independent judges from more than 1,200 applicants.
Ford lives in Killeen and has been taking courses from Temple College online. Her goal is to become a pediatric nurse practitioner as well as a Christian teen counselor. She currently works at the Baylor Scott & White Mclane Children’s Specialty Clinic in Temple and volunteers in the children’s church at Christian House of Prayer in Killeen.
“Children have always been my passion and that is where I feel I would be the most help now and in the future,” Ford says.
Ford served as a physical therapy technician for the Air Force Reserve out of NAS JRB in Fort Worth from 2012-2018.
The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society recognizes the academic achievement of students at two-year colleges. Temple College was awarded a Phi Theta Kappa chapter in 1960.
The Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program was launched in 2001 to assist new PTK members in obtaining an associate degree and encourage participation in PTK programs.
