Twelve students from Temple College have been selected to perform in Texas community college All-State music ensembles in 2016.
Five students have been selected for the Texas Two-Year College All-State Choir − Hannah Gilmore, Morgan Hollingsworth, Nick Lopez, Angel Medina and Alec Seegers.
Three students have been chosen to perform in the All-State Symphonic Band, which is selected by the Texas Community College Band Directors Association (TCCBDA). Christopher May was selected to play percussion, Shelby Mortenson was selected to play clarinet and Christian O’Neill was selected to play euphonium.
Four students have been selected to perform in the TCCBDA All-State Jazz Ensemble. Jacob Armstrong was selected to play guitar, Charles Reid was selected to play drums, Jacob Saluto was selected to play trombone and Blaine Smith was selected to play bass.
“Only 21 players are selected for the All-State Jazz Ensemble,” said Tom Fairlie, director of the Division of Fine Arts. “The fact that four of them are Temple College students is indicative of the quality of teaching going on here at TC.”
Being selected for an All-State ensemble is the highest honor a Texas music student can receive. More than 60,000 students from around the state compete for the honor to perform in one of 15 ensembles, including bands, orchestras and choirs. About 1,700 are selected each year.
Students selected for the ensembles will participate in three days of rehearsals directed by nationally recognized conductors during the annual Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention in February. The ensembles will perform before an audience of thousands on the final day of the convention.
