Student work programs provide part-time employment for qualified students. Positions vary from clerical to lab assistants, and computer operations to lifeguards. Students can work up to nineteen hours a week and are paid at least the current minimum wage as set forth by the Department of Labor. Students are paid on the last working day of each month.


Eligibility Requirements

To determine if you are eligible for the College Work-Study Program, simply Log on to your Self-Service Account, click on Financial Aid Counseling then Review your Award Letter to view work-study eligibility and amounts.

For the Texas College Work-Study (TCWS) program, you must meet the general eligibilty requirements above and the extra requirements listed below

  • Be a Texas resident
  • Be registered with Selective Service, or be exempt
  • Not be a recipient of any form of athletic scholarship during the semester(s) he/she is receiving TCWS

Hiring Process

Once you have submitted an application, the Office of Financial Aid will review it for completeness, eligibility and enrollment. Incomplete applications will not be considered for employment.

  • Your work-study eligibility will be determined and your application forwarded to the hiring supervisor(s) of your selected positions.
  • Hiring supervisor(s) will contact you if interested in interviewing you for the position.
  • Once selected by a department to fill a position, a criminal background check must be performed. The Human Resources Department will request that you complete the following forms: DPS Criminal History Form, Temple College Background Release Form, Authorization Form and Job Responsibilities Form. These forms must be submitted to the Human Resources Department for review.
  • Human Resources Department will be notified of the approved background checks and will contact you to complete W-4 and I-9 forms. You will complete these forms and provide original identity documents to the Human Resources Department to verify the I-9. Human Resources Department will submit these forms to the Office of Financial Aid for input in the E-Verify system where the Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration will verify your eligibility to work in the United States. You will be notified if you are determined NOT eligible to participate as a student worker in Temple College’s Work-Study Program.
  • If you are eligible to begin work, the hiring supervisor and Human Resource Department will contact you to set your start date. Under no circumstances will you be allowed to work as a student worker before completing the I-9 form and receiving confirmation of eligibility to work. Students who work prior to receiving this confirmation may be terminated as a student worker. The Human Resources Department will contact you if any additional information may be necessary to determine your eligibility.
