Temple College Faculty Jazz Jazz enthusiasts will have plenty to choose from as Temple College hosts four different jazz concerts in November.

On Tuesday, Nov. 6, the Temple College Faculty Jazz will give a free concert at 12:30 p.m. in the Jackson-Graeter Backstage Theatre. The ensemble will play original compositions and arrangements by group members that encompass a variety of styles, including swing, fusion and Latin. The ensemble is led by Colin Mason (saxophone) and currently includes Randy Zimmerman (trombone), Dr. Ben Irom (piano), Dr. Dan Andersen (guitar), Dr. Tarik Hassan (bass) and Norm Bergeron (drums). The Backstage Theatre is located in the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center.

On Sunday, Nov. 11, the Temple College Jazz Ensemble will perform at 3 p.m. in the auditorium of the Performing Arts Center. The group will play a variety of big band styles, ranging from Count Basie-style swing to modern arrangements of jazz standards. Some of the featured composers/arrangers will include Thad Jones, Dave Eshelman, Dan Gailey, Jeff Jarvis and Mark Taylor. A $5 admission charge will support scholarships for Temple College music students. The Temple College Jazz Ensemble also is directed by Colin Mason.

On Tuesday, Nov. 13, the Temple Jazz Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $10 for adults and are available for purchase in the Temple College Fine Arts Division office and at the door. The Temple Jazz Orchestra is the premier jazz ensemble in central Texas and includes the best professional jazz musicians and educators from throughout the area.

On Tuesday, Nov. 27, the Temple College Jazz Combo will give a free concert at 12:30 p.m. in the Jackson-Graeter Backstage Theatre. The concert will feature instrumental jazz favorites from composers such as John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock and Bobby Timmons.
