Two Temple College faculty members have been selected to receive 2018 awards from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD), an organization committed to promoting and celebrating excellence in teaching, learning and leadership at community and technical colleges.

The recipients are Kimberly George, associate professor of English, and Claudia Turner, a professor in the Associate Degree Nursing program. The two will be honored at NISOD’s 2018 International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence, which will be held May 26-29 in Austin.

George has been a member of the Temple College faculty since 2012. She has taught English Composition, British Literature and American Literature. She also has taught online courses, as well as dual-credit classes on various high school campuses. George is a founding member of the college’s new chapter of Sigma Kappa Delta, the English honor society for two-year colleges.

Turner has been a member of the Temple College faculty since 1999 and was the 2018 recipient of the college’s 2018 Claudia and W.T. Barnhart Teacher of the Year Award.

The NISOD Excellence Awards were established in 1991 to provide NISOD-member colleges with an opportunity to recognize individuals doing extraordinary work on their campuses. Using their own criteria, NISOD member colleges submit names of faculty and staff members who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment and contribution to their students and colleagues.
