Over the course of the Spring 2001 Semester, members of the TC Chess Club met with Mrs. Simmons's 2nd grade class at Jefferson where they taught students to build a working camera from shoe boxes and ordinary materials.

How to Build a Pin-Hole Camera

by: Amanda

"First you get all the materials, (a can, spray paint, black tape, drill/sander, scissors, foil, film, and developing fluid).

Next drill a hole in the can and sand it down to make it smooth.

Then spray paint the can black [because] black [absorbs] the light.

Then paint a piece of foil and tape it on the inside of the hole.

Next load the film and tape the lid on so that no light will come in."

3. Next, sand the hole so it is smooth.

4. Now spray paint the lid and inside the can so light won't get in.
