About Your Award Offer

The information listed below concerning the awards that appear on your award offer is intended to help you understand and comply with the requirements for these awards. Please become familiar with the individual sections to be sure you understand program requirements and expectations. Additional information can be obtained by contacting the Financial Aid Office.

General Eligibility Requirements

The following general eligibility requirements apply to all federal and state financial aid programs. To be eligible you must:

  1. Be enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program.
  2. Maintain satisfactory academic progress according to the policy of TC Financial Aid.
  3. Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  4. Not be in default on any educational loan.
  5. Be enrolled at least half-time (for loans only).
  6. Not be receiving Financial Aid at another college or university for the same time period/semester.
  7. Begin attendance in all enrolled coursework.
STUDENTS CAN RECEIVE FINANCIAL AID FROM ONLY ONE COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY FOR THE SAME SEMESTER. If you are receiving financial aid at another institution please contact our office immediately.

Costs

The estimated cost of attendance for an in-district student attending TC full time (12 semester hours per term) for a full year (fall and spring semesters) is as follows:

  • Student living with parent (s) $10,020
  • Student not living with parent(s) $14,480
  • Student living on campus $13,955
These estimated costs include averages for room and board, transportation, and personal expenses. Remember that these figures are estimates and may not represent actual costs. Please refer to the TC website for a complete breakdown of the actual costs of tuition and fees. The estimated cost for books and supplies for a single semester is $618. Actual costs for both may vary depending on the course work selected and the actual number of hours taken.

Payment of Tuition and Fees

A student's registration for a given semester is not complete until all tuition and fees for that semester have been paid. A student who does not pay tuition and fees in full prior to the published payment deadline (see TC website for details) may be subject to having their registration voided and classes cancelled.

If you have been approved for financial aid including loans sufficient to cover your tuition and fees, your registration is complete and you are officially enrolled. If you have applied for financial aid, but the award is not ready at registration, the Financial Aid Office will make every effort to complete your financial aid award to pay your tuition and fees. By registering for classes, you are agreeing that a financial aid award may be posted to your account. If you do not plan to attend or if you stop attending any or all of your courses, you must go to the Advising Office and officially withdraw from those courses.

Installment Plan

The installment plan is an online service administered by FACTS Tuition Management Co. Once a payment plan has been chosen, it may not be changed. The number of installments will depend on the date the agreement is completed and submitted online to FACTS. Tuition and fees can be paid by going to the TC Web E-Cashier at: https://tconnect2.templejc.edu/WebLivProd/html/Facts/facts.htm.

Earning Your Financial Aid

Attending college using financial aid is like having a job. Your financial aid is earned over the course of the semester by attending and participating in all classes for which you have enrolled. Failure to attend classes may cause you to be dropped by your instructor. If you withdraw or are dropped from all of your coursework, you will be required to repay a significant portion of the financial aid you received. Failure to begin attendance in one or more courses will make you responsible to repay the portion of financial aid that you received for that course or courses.

Financial Aid for Summer Enrollment

Summer terms at TC are considered part of the prior academic year for awarding and payment of financial aid. Students are limited to receiving any unused financial aid eligibilities from the prior fall and spring semesters. This means that in most cases summer financial aid is very limited. Students must meet the following criteria to receive financial aid in the summer:

  1. Meet the General Eligibility Requirements mentioned earlier in this document.
  2. Not be considered a transient student, i.e.: coming to TC in the summer and returning to a home institution for the fall/spring semesters.
  3. Enroll in a minimum of 6 semester hours for the eight-week summer term. The student must be enrolled for both six-week terms to be eligible. *Summer loans are calculated on an individual basis

Changes in Hours Enrolled

Federal regulations require that Pell Grant and loan funds be adjusted based on enrollment status. Enrollment status for Financial Aid purposes is determined at the end of the regular registration period based on the following:

full-time    12 or more semester hours
    ¾-time    9-11 semester hours
    ½-time    6-8 semester hours

Financial Aid is limited for students who attend less than half-time (fewer than six (6) semester hours). At the time of registration if the awarded amount is not enough to cover tuition and fees, the student is responsible for any remaining balance.

Students who are considering dropping hours should contact the Financial Aid Office prior to dropping their courses to determine the effect on further financial aid eligibility. A reduction in hours may result in an adjustment to the aid package and may also affect satisfactory academic progress. It is the responsibility of the student to notify this office of any reductions to hours enrolled.

Dropping classes could place a student on Financial Aid Probation/Suspension as stated in the Temple College Financial Aid Probation/Suspension Policy (see below).

Remember that to start, qualify for, and keep your Stafford Loan eligibility, you must be registered in at least ½ time (6 semester hours).

Withdrawal from the College

Students receiving financial aid who withdraw from all their coursework or who are dropped by their instructor for non-attendance may owe a significant repayment (up to 100 percent) of the financial aid they have received. Please be sure to check with the Financial Aid Office before any withdrawal to ensure you understand the repercussions of withdrawal on your current and future financial aid. If a refund is owed and not paid, you will not be eligible for further financial aid at any college or university until the refund is paid in full or satisfactory repayment arrangements have been made with the appropriate agency/office. For more information contact the Financial Aid Office.

Federal Pell Grant (PELL)

This is an award that does not have to be repaid. Your estimated award is based on full-time enrollment of 12 hours or more. You will receive three-fourths of the award if you are enrolled in 9 to 11 hours, half of the award for enrollment of 6 to 8 hours, and a fractional amount for less than half-time 5 hours or less. Some small Pell Grant awards may not pay for less than full-time status. If your award is $650 or less per semester, you may be affected by this pro-ration. The Pell Grant can be credited toward charges of tuition and fees, and books. Any unspent funds will be disbursed to the student. Balance checks will be mailed (for those who have completed their files prior to the first day of class) approximately 14 days after the first day of class. For those completing their files after the first day of class, the checks will disburse accordingly. Please note your Pell Grant award may not cover all costs. It is your responsibility to make arrangements for additional funding if necessary. You must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress every school year. YOU MUST ALSO REAPPLY EACH YEAR.

Academic Competitiveness Grants (ACG)

Students who have completed rigorous secondary program requirements in high school may be eligible for the Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG). The Academic Competitiveness Grant was made available for the first time for the 2006-2007 school year for first year college students who graduated from high school after January 1, 2006, and for second year college students who graduated from high school after January 1, 2005. A high school transcript identifying and verifying the rigorous program successfully completed must be provided to Admissions and Records in order for a student to be considered for the ACG. To receive an ACG a student must be a Pell Grant recipient and enroll full time (12 semester hours or more) in a degree program. To remain eligible for the grant students must not drop below full time (12 credit hours per semester) during their first two years of college, and a GPA of 3.0 or greater must be maintained.

Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

This award does not have to be paid back. This grant is awarded to those whose EFC is "0". The allocation for the SEOG grant is limited and is therefore awarded on a first-come first-served basis. This grant is usually awarded in increments of $500 per year. The SEOG grant is credited towards your tuition, fees, and books. Any unspent funds will be disbursed to the student usually at the same time the PELL grants are disbursed.

Stafford Loans

The Stafford Loan Programs are available for eligible students. Temple College offers Stafford Loans for all of our students who have submitted a FAFSA for the fall and spring semesters. To accept your loan, you must complete the loan application process through Loans by Web. To access Loans By WebTM at https://lbw.tgslc.org/ and follow the instructions under Stafford Loan. Students must enroll in and remain in a minimum of 6 semester hours for any term in which they obtain a Stafford Loan.

First-time loan borrowers must attend an Entrance Loan Counseling Session (ELCS) in person even if you have already completed the process on the web. You must sign up for a session in the Financial Aid Office. A photo ID is required when you attend the ELCS. Tentative dates for ELCS can be found on the Temple College Financial Aid website under "Important Dates."

Federal/State Work-Study

Work Study funds are awarded usually in increments of $3,000 per year provided the student has a need. If the need is under the $3,000 range work-study can be awarded in smaller increments. A student must be placed for a job covered by the Work-Study funds. Students are placed during the second week of class. They must complete an application for work before being hired. After being hired a student must present two forms of I. D. usually a driver's license and social security card. These are used to complete an I-9 form and the W-2 form. After these forms are complete, the student is presented with a time sheet. Students can work up to 15 hours a week and time must be recorded on a daily basis. Time sheets are due around the 23rd of each month. Payroll checks are disbursed by the Cashiers Office on the last working day of each month. Work-study eligibility award is not applied directly to registration expenses. Students must work on campus to earn their eligibility amount. Currently, Temple College pays $6.00 per hour and allows a student to work up to 15 hours per week. Additional hours may be allowed with the approval of the Financial Aid Office. Students are not guaranteed jobs, but are referred on a first-come/first-served basis, based upon job availability. A student should contact the Financial Aid Office for available positions and for a referral to a department for an interview.

Awards from Outside Sources

If you receive any type of award from outside TC, (church, school, etc.) you must report it to this office as soon as possible. An adjustment in your financial aid award amounts may be necessary based on your documented need and the guidelines of the individual program(s).

IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT

When students register for classes (these include classes signed up for during early registration) and are AWARDED financial aid then decide not to attend classes, they MUST officially drop all classes in the Advising Center (2nd Floor OCC Building). Not dropping classes could result in receiving all "F's" for the term and/or may result in owing back money to Temple College as well as the Federal Government. If funds are owed back due to a Return to Title IV calculation, the student cannot attend ANY college until such funds are paid back in full.
