MAINTAINING YOUR COMPUTER

Keeping your computer in good running condition will help keep the network up and running! Once you connect your computer to TCNET, you have an ALWAYS ON connection. This means IF YOUR COMPUTER IS ON, YOU ARE CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET and your computer is vulnerable to viruses, hacker attacks and for others to use for malicious purposes!

WHEN YOUR COMPUTER BECOMES INFECTED, IT CAN AFFECT THE ENTIRE NETWORK!

What are some hints that your computer may have a virus or be infected with adware or spyware?

  1. Your computer doesn't seem to be working as fast as it did a few weeks ago.
  2. You type in a web address and the browser goes to the wrong page or a "blank" page.
  3. You get a lot of strange pop-up boxes as you surf the web.
  4. You get a lot of messages in your email box that you are sending viruses to others.
  5. Your browser is slow, slow, slow!

Viruses, adware and/or spyware constantly send information over the Internet to their respective websites. This causes excessive network traffic and will slow down and even STOP the flow of information over the network! This often results in the message "no server found" or "no page found". This is why it is so important for each user to take responsiblity for keeping their computer virus, adware and spyware free!
