10 Strategies for College Success
- Go to class on time and attend every class period unless an emergency arises.
- Go by your instructor's office at least one time to ask a question. Do this before mid-term.
- Attend some of the college's activities.
- Get to know some other students on campus.
- Have a study plan for each course. Set a "grade" you want to make in each class. Understand the instructor's syllabus.
- Make sure coming to college is your goal. If it is someone else's, your chances for success are diminished.
- Have a college "major" in mind by the end of your first year. See advising for help.
- If your study habits are weak, take a "study skills" course or visit the Education Assistance Center, upstairs in One College Centre.
- Assess your priorities: work, college, family, friends, etc. If college is not among your top priorities, assess why you are here.
- Get to know the library and ask for help.
