10 Strategies for College Success

  1. Go to class on time and attend every class period unless an emergency arises.

  2. Go by your instructor's office at least one time to ask a question. Do this before mid-term.

  3. Attend some of the college's activities.

  4. Get to know some other students on campus.

  5. Have a study plan for each course. Set a "grade" you want to make in each class. Understand the instructor's syllabus.

  6. Make sure coming to college is your goal. If it is someone else's, your chances for success are diminished.

  7. Have a college "major" in mind by the end of your first year. See advising for help.

  8. If your study habits are weak, take a "study skills" course or visit the Education Assistance Center, upstairs in One College Centre.

  9. Assess your priorities: work, college, family, friends, etc. If college is not among your top priorities, assess why you are here.

  10. Get to know the library and ask for help.
