Temple College Cheerleader Information Sheet
- Potential numbers: Temple College has the potential to have 6-8 cheerleaders for the 2008-2009 school year.
- Responsibilities: Cheerleaders cheer for all home and some away men's and women's basketball games, and volleyball games. In addition, they will be involved in spring fling, registration and other school activities. Cheerleaders practice 4-5 hours a week. Practice times may vary.
- Cost: Each cheerleader receives a $250 per semester scholarship. In order to remain a cheerleader, the student must maintain a 2.0 GPA. TC funds all monies for camp clothes, shoes, poms, uniforms, etc, as well as meal money on away trips. There may be fundraisers from time to time for special events.
- Tryouts: Cheerleader applicants are encouraged to show the following: 1 Toe Touch, Standing back handspring or standing back tuck, and a tumbling pass with at least 2 back handsprings. These must be without a spot. Applicants must be able to perform these skills on a wooden gym floor. Tumbling is not a requirement to make the team. You will also be asked to demonstrate your stunting ability. You must know the proper techniques for preps, extensions, liberties and basket tosses. Modest tank tops are permitted; however, judging will be based on appearance. Each applicant will need to bring one cheer of their own and they will learn one group cheer on Friday.
- Mandatory meeting: Immediately following the tryout, a meeting with the new squad will be held to get important information.
- Eligibility: All freshmen and sophomores attending Temple College full time are eligible. Must meet scholarship criteria below.
Criteria:
A scholarship will be awarded each semester. The amount will be determined by the tryout date and must be paid back in full if cheerleader is dismissed or chooses to be removed from the squad at any time
A student must be a TC full time student - 12 hours per semester or 9 hours with special permission.
The student must maintain a 2.0 GPA.
Applicant must have two recommendations: one from a high school cheer sponsor (or equivalent) and one from a high school teacher. If already in college, the two letters must come from two teachers.
Recipient must agree to rules of the squad and sign a contract.
