Symphonic Band To Present Concert The Temple College Symphonic Band will perform its second concert of the season at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at Temple College. This free concert will feature an eclectic variety of wind band music, including some seasonal selections. Featured works in the concert will include “Midway March” by movie composer John Williams, “Incantation and Dance” by John Barnes Chance, and “Elegy for a Young American” by Ronald Lo Presti. Other works include “El Cid” March by Miklos Rozsa and “Goober Peas” by Robert Jager. Christmas selections on the program are “Greensleeves” by Alfred Reed and Leroy Anderson’s “A Christmas Festival” Director of the Symphonic Band, Brent Colwell, is a third year faculty member at Temple College after a lengthy career as a public school band director. The previous 14 years he had been a director with Temple I.S.D schools, where his groups earned many state and national awards in the areas of concert, marching and jazz. In addition to his position at Temple College, he is active as a clinician and adjudicator across the state of Texas. The Temple College Symphonic Band has given four world premiere performances since 1995 and has become one of the premiere community college wind ensembles in Texas. In addition, many of Temple College’s wind and percussion students receive honors every year including selection to Texas Community College All-State Concert Band. The band is made up of traditional college students, local high school band seniors, local band directors and community members who all share a strong interest in symphonic band music. The concert will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, in the auditorium of the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center on the Temple College campus. This concert is free and open to the public.
