TBI Students To Review
Associate of Arts Degree
Ten Central Texas area high school seniors will make history in May as they receive an associate of arts degree from Temple College prior to receiving their high school diplomas.
The nine students have all participated in the Texas Bioscience Institute Middle College program which allows qualified high school students to enroll in dual credit coursework in the junior and senior years. Students attend their respective high schools for part of the day and go to classes at the Texas Bioscience Institute for part of the day. After two years in the program, students may earn enough credits to complete the two-year associate of arts degree from Temple College.
The award-winning Texas Bioscience Institute’s innovative and rigorous curriculum prepares students for careers in biotechnology, research and medical fields. Now in its second year, the Temple College partnership with area high schools has 114 students representing more than a dozen schools.
This year there are 44 graduating seniors from 14 high schools enrolled. Of those, nine have completed the requirements for the associate of arts degree and will be honored at the Temple College commencement program on Saturday, May 10, about three weeks before their respective high school graduations.
TBI students receiving associates degrees are Weston Harmon of Belton High School; Angelina Noblitt, Melissa Windham and Michael Zachar of Harker Heights High School, and Isis Gardner, Brittany Harris, Laura Miramontes, Michelle Oldham, and Chelsey Wasson, all of Ellison High School, Killeen; John Ogden, Holy Trinity High School, Texas A&M University.
