Temple College Holds 82nd Commencement CeremonyApproximately 500 Temple College students received associate degrees and certificates at the 82nd annual commencement program at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, at the Frank and Sue Mayborn Campus Center on the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor campus in Belton. Students received the associate of arts degree, associate of applied science degree or certificate of completion of a prescribed college program during the ceremony. The spring graduation ceremony recognizes the Spring 2008 class as well as Summer and Fall graduates. Cynthia Martinez, a member of the math faculty and currently serving as interim Division Director for Mathematics, Sciences and Physical Education, received the Barnhart Teacher of the Year Award. She has been a member of the TC faculty since 2000 and serves as dual credit coordinator for 26 area high schools and as president of the Faculty Council. She also has served as department chair and on the design team for Legacy Early College High School. Ms. Martinez is the 20th recipient of the Claudia and W. T. Barnhart Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award, a $2,000 cash award for teaching excellence. The award is named in honor of Claudia and W. T. Barnhart whose family established an endowment fund in 1988 for the annual recognition given through the Temple College Foundation.
Music for the ceremony was presented by the Temple College Orchestra conducted by Mary Fairlie. The invocation was given by Karen Johns of Belton, candidate for graduation, and the benediction was asked by Ashley Murello of Temple, candidate for graduation. Prior to the commencement program Saturday morning, there were special ceremonies honoring graduates of students in the Dental Hygiene and Nursing programs. The honors ceremony for Dental Hygiene students was at 6:30 p.m. Friday (May 9) in the TC Pavilion, and the pinning ceremony for Nursing students was at 7 p.m. on Friday in the auditorium of the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center. A cording ceremony for graduating high school seniors who attend the Texas Bioscience Institute was held at 10 a.m. Friday (May 9) at the TC Pavilion. The students were presented with a special TBI cord to be worn at their respective graduations. Ten of the students also have qualified to receive an associate of arts degree from TC.

Take I-35 S. to Belton. Exit on 6th Ave. (Exit 294B) Turn right. Students may park next to tennis courts and along King Street. You may also park in the overflow lot off Mabee Drive at Parker Drive (if needed).
