Temple College Orchestra The Temple College Orchestra will perform a concert titled “Beethoven and Beyond” on Tuesday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Mary Alice Marshall Performing Arts Center.

In addition to Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1, the concert will include “Capriccio Espagnol,” a five-movement orchestral suite based on Spanish folk melodies; “Dance Bacchanale,” from the opera “Samson and Delilah” by Camille Saint-Saens; and “Variations on a Shaker Melody” by Aaron Copland.

“These selections run the musical gamut from the lighter, classical style of Beethoven to the heavier romantic style of Korsakov and Saint-Saens, to the melodic 20th century American style of Copland,” said orchestra director Mary Fairlie. “There will be something for everyone in this concert.”

The Temple College Orchestra includes college students, some high school students, professional musicians and adults who love playing. The orchestra performs standard repertoire from a range of musical styles.

“I believe it is important for students to gain experience playing the standard repertoire for symphony orchestra,” Fairlie said. “There is such a wealth of wonderful music that has stood the test of time.”

Admission to the concert is $5 and will be used to provide scholarships for incoming music students. For more information on this concert and other events sponsored by the Temple College Fine Arts Division, call 254-298-8555 or visit www.templejc.edu.
