Dr. Glenda Barron Named TC President The Temple College Board of Trustees has named Dr. Glenda Barron as president of Temple College.
The announcement came following a national presidential search to replace Dr. Marc A. Nigliazzo who left the college in June after 13 years as president to accept a position as vice president of the University of New Mexico. No official start date has been set, but it is anticipated that Dr. Barron will be on campus in the next week or two to finalize details of her appointment. Five finalists were brought to campus earlier this month for interviews and forums with the Board, faculty and staff, and the public. “The Board was impressed with the quality of all of the finalists,” Jack W. Jones, chair, said. Any one of them could have been an outstanding president for Temple College. The Board unanimously felt very comfortable with Dr. Barron’s experience, energy and qualifications, but more than anything else, recognized that she is the kind of person who will continue to make Temple College and the communities in our service area a very special place.” Dr. Barron has 13 years of teaching and management experience at the college level and 20 years of service at Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, most recently as Assistant Commissioner for Student Advancement and Private Institution Oversight. Other THECB roles include Assistant Commissioner for Community and Technical Colleges and Program Director of Universities and Health Affairs Division. Areas of responsibility included increasing enrollment and retention of students, state financial aid programs, state funding for public education, institutional effectiveness and working with the Texas Legislature and other state agencies. Dr. Barron holds a certificate from Panola College in Carthage, a B.S. with major in Business Education from the University of Houston, M.Ed. with major in Business Education from McNeese State University, Lake Charles, LA, and a Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin.
