Temple College Downtown Center

TEMPLE COLLEGE - DOWNTOWN
Main at Adams
Temple, Texas

Temple College - Downtown consists of two historic buildings on Main Street, across Adams Avenue from one another:

Downtown Center

The Downtown Center is home to the Temple College Advancement, Business and Community Education Division.

Located in the historical former post office/library building in the heart of downtown Temple, the Downtown Center is a cornerstone of Downtown Temple! and the revitalization of the central business district. The College renovated the structure in 2000 and leases it from the City. Freese and Nichols, Inc. was architect for the renovation and WTC Masterbuilders Limited was contractor.

The main floor includes a 40-seat classroom, two wireless mobile computer labs, and offices for the TC Office of Business and Community Education. This department offers a wide variety of non-credit courses, both on an open-enrollment, public offering basis as well as through customized training for local businesses, industries and other organizations. While the primary focus is to meet the greater Temple-area workforce development needs of this changing world, the Business and Community Education Office also partners with organizations such as local school districts and parks departments to provide seniors and youth with personal development opportunities. Both day and evening non-credit classes are offered at the Downtown Center.

A large computer laboratory classroom, equipped with the latest software, and a 24-seat classroom are on the second floor. Additionally, the PACTIV conference room which seats up to twelve is on this floor.

The ground floor is home to a 15 station computer training lab and a break area.

The Business Training Center, across Adams Avenue from the Downtown Center, is among the latest additions to Temple College facilities. Restored in 2005, this century-old historic building, and the activities housed here, is a joint community project.

The building is owned by the Temple College Foundation. Renovation of the building and development of the Temple Business Incubator is the result of the partnership between Temple College, Temple College Foundation, City of Temple, Temple Economic Development Corporation, and the Temple Chamber of Commerce. Renovation was funded in part by a $720,000 grant from the Economic Development Administration, a division of the Department of Commerce.

The three story building is home to Temple College Foundation, the Temple Business Incubator, and Temple College, providing additional classrooms for Temple College Workforce and Community Education programs and office space for staff working on the grant project to develop a biotechnology program, The Texas Bioscience Institute.

An entire floor is dedicated to the Temple Business Incubator. There are 12 offices in the incubator, each with computer, phone line, and office furniture. New businesses can lease these offices without having to pay utility deposits and other startup costs. They receive individual counseling from the incubator staff in everything from tax returns to marketing to ensure they are on the right track.
