Scooter became a junior firefighter in 1990, and attended EMT school in 1992. He volunteered with Texas A&M EMS while attending college there from 1992-1996. He worked at a private transfer service in Houston during the summer and started volunteering with Harris County Emergency Corps in 1993. He started working with AMT /Rural Metro in Grimes County in 1994 and then St. Joseph’s EMS in Madison County in 1995, later becoming a shift supervisor there in 1997. He became an EMS Instructor in 1996 and taught his first EMT class that year as part of his degree plan at A&M where he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Health. He also established the Madison County First Responders in 1996 and served as its director until 2004 while volunteering with the Madisonville Fire Department. In 1999, Scooter began teaching with Blinn College EMS Programs in Bryan, TX and was selected to become a Flight Paramedic with Scott & White Medivac 1. He continued working with St. Joseph EMS and ER until 2000 when he began work for Ft. Bend County EMS where he later was awarded Paramedic of the Year in 2002. The next year he finally came full time with Scott & White EMS / STAT Air as a Critical Care Paramedic where he is still active. In 2005, STAT Air became part of PHI Air Medical where he continues to work in Georgetown, TX. |
