Description/Mechanism

Ketorolac is an anti-inflammatory drug that also exhibits peripherally acting, non-narcotic analgesic activity by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.

2-6 hours

Indications

Short-term management of moderate to severe pain.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the drug.

Patients with history of asthma.

Patients with allergies to aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Bleeding disorders.

Renal failure

Drug Interactions

Ketorolac may increase bleeding time when administered to patients taking anticoagulants.

15 mg or 30 mg in 1 ml

60 mg in 2 ml

Dose/Administration

Adult

IM: 30-60 mg

IV: 30 mg over 1 min, 15 mg over 1 min if over 65 years or renal impaired.

Pediatric

Not recommended

Special Consideration

Pregnancy Safety: Category C

Solution is clear and slightly yellow in color

Use with caution and reduced doses when administering to elderly patients.
