General Lab Directions
Note: There is not enough time in lecture to cover all the material; read your book BEFORE you begin the lab
Note: Typically labs will require you to invest some time in the lab, outside of class lecture hours

•Note: Please read the related overview material before continuing
Check with your Instructor for due date, typically Friday, 11:59PM (see due dates)

•Theory introduced in Lab 3 (link to theory part of lab)

   •Begin creating, editing, and modifying documents for Lab 3 (link to activity requirements)
   •Answer questions concerning topics covered in Lab 3
     (You will later transfer this information into a D2L quiz)

At the end of this process,
1) you will submit the document files by zipping them, and placing them in the Desire2Learn dropbox area. Instructions on zipping are below.
2) you will be 'turning in' your documentation and Q&A by taking the lab 3 quiz in the Quizzes area of Desire2Learn. So, to get the best score, complete the documentation and Q&A as directed below, first.

 

 

 

Part 1: Documentation, (30%)
  
At the end of this process, you will be turning in answers using the Quizzes area of Desire2Learn, based on the following. So, to get the best score, fill in all the answers in this document first.

Theory

      • You can control who opens a pdf
      • You can remove the ability to print, copy, or edit a document, and require a password to change the setting
      • You can create policies with predetermined limits on printing copying, and editing, each with a unique password, and apply the policies to documents
      • If using policies, you should have a record that includes the policy name, what it does, what the password is, and who has the password.

      • You can control who opens a with certificates (beyond the scope of this class)
      • You can control who opens a with a Live Cycle Server (beyond the scope of this class)
      • You can create a digital signature (good information, but optional, not part of lab)
      • You can create a security envelope (for those who wish to really push acrobat use, not part of lab)

Part 2, Activity (40%):
 • Practice creating password security

 • Create a folder called lab3
 • Copy your résumé pdf into the lab3 folder
 • Control who can open the document, using a password (May be done via direct creation of password, or by policy).
 • Control who can edit, copy, and print aspect of your form (May be done via direct creation of password, or by policy).
 • Include a chart of passwords with submission similar to below (Word or pdf)

Right click the Lab3 folder
Choose Send To...
Choose Compressed (Zipped) Folder
 
You may rename the new zip by right clicking it.
The file name should be yourname-lab3.zip

  • Document open password protected (15 points)
  • Document edit password protected (3 points)
  • Document copy password protected (3 points)
  • Document print password protected (3 points)

Part 3: Hands On (30%): Be prepared to show the functionality of your access controlled pdf 

At the end of this process, you will be turning in answers using the Quizzes area of Desire2Learn, based on the following questions. So, to get the best score, fill in all the answers in this document first.

Answer the following questions

  • If you do create policies, it is recommended you create a chart to keep track of the particulars. What fields should be in your chart of passwords?

  • Put in order the steps to setting up a password that allows no changes, but allows printing and copying? Work in a top down manner
    Enter the Change Permissions Password
    Select a Security Method, such as Password Security.
    Click Restrict editing and print...
    Click the Enable copying of text, images, and other content
    Set Printing Allowed to High Resolution
    Set Changes Allowed to None
    Choose Show Security policies

Problems? Zip the entire folder and attach to an email:
       •Send the mail to your instructor, cc yourself
       •The subject line should include your name, your class, your section, and what you are submitting
       •Make sure you attach the zipped file

SUBMITTING THE LAB

In Windows, zip the entire Lab3 directory, and rename to yourname-Lab3.zip.
       •Example: yourname-Lab3 or yourname-Lab3.zip (if your extensions are visible)
Log into Desire2Learn, choose this class, choose Dropbox, and select lab 3.
Browse to yourname-Lab3.zip and upload it. (Scroll down to see detailed instructions)

You will then transfer your answers to the D2L Quiz for lab 3. You may use your notes for this part of lab.
Choose the Quizzes menu, and locate lab 3.
