       Lab Assignments

 

                         *** Note: The Guide to StarOffice textbook and StarOffice 8 software must be used for the following assignments. All required assignments are to be saved on diskette/usb drive as well as printed.  Each different exercise should be saved as a separate file.  Assignments turned in after the due date will be penalized 5 points per day.  No assignment will be accepted more than one week past the due date. After assignments are checked you will get them back with a grade and a possible critique. You will need to turn in the in-chapter practice exercises to your instructor as specified in the following schedule. Practice exercises must be handed in at beginning of lab class.

Read Chapter 2 pages 23-49, performing all practice exercises & reading tips as you proceed through the chapter. Hand in practice exercise: Request pp. 26-28 and practice exercise Handbook pp. 29-32. Work on and turn in Exercise 1 p. 50& Ex. 9 on p. 56 during lab class.

February 2

Read Chapter 3 pages 61-84, performing all practice exercises & reading tips as you proceed through the chapter. Turn in practice exercise: Training parts 1 through 7 pp. 62-76. Oork on and turn in Exercise 3 p. 86 & Ex. 9 on p. 89 during lab class

February 9

Read Chapter 4 pages 103-126, performing all practice exercises & reading tips as you proceed through the chapter. Turn in practice exercise: Tutoring pp. 117-120. Work on and turn in Exercise 3 p. 128 during lab class.

February 16

Lab Test #1 on Wordprocessing. This will be a hands-on test, typing in a document and implementing many of the common editing and formatting skills that you should have acquired in the previous Chapters.

February 23

Read Chapter 5 pages 133-168, performing all practice exercises & reading tips as you proceed through the chapter. Turn in practice exercise: Grades parts 1-5 pp.136-151. Work on and turn in Exercise 2 p. 170 & Ex. 8 on p. 175/176 during lab class.

March 2

Read Chapter 6 pages 183-209, performing all practice exercises & reading tips as you proceed through the chapter. Turn in practice exercise: Mileage log pp 186-187: Mileage Summary pp 189-190: Hotel Occupancy parts 1-3 pp 191-198. Work on and turn in Exercise 1 p. 210 & Ex. 5 on p. 213 during lab class.

March 9

Read Chapter 7 pages 225-251, performing all practice exercises & reading tips as you proceed through the chapter. Turn in practice exercise Temperature parts 1 & 2 pp. 234-247. Work on and turn in Exercise 1 p. 252/253 & Ex. 3 on p. 254 during lab class.

Lab Test #2 on Spreadsheets. This will be a hands-on test, typing in data into specific cell addresses using formulas and functions, and performing common editing and formatting skills, and create chart.

March 30

Read Chapter 10 pages 333-348, performing all practice exercises & reading tips as you proceed through the chapter. Turn in ALL practice exercises pp. 335-348. Work on and turn in Database Exercise p. 348 during lab class

April 6

Lab Test #3 on Databases. This will be a hands-on test creating a simple database and adding data to the database, creating filters, and reports.

April 13

Read Chapter 9 pages 295-317, performing all practice exercises & reading tips as you proceed through the chapter. Turn in practice exercise: Genstone parts 1 & 2 pp 298-306 and practice exercise: Better burger pp 308-312.
