General Lab Directions
Note: There is not enough time in lecture to cover all the material; read your book BEFORE you begin the lab

•Note: Please read the related overview material before continuing
Check with your Instructor for due date, typically Friday, 11:59PM (see due dates)

Part 1 Complete Quizzes for the Practical PC book for Chapters 7 and 8
You do NOT need to search for, or create a tracking disk, you will use the D2L quizzes...
Choose cancel when prompted to create a tracking disk, and choose continue if warned about tracking
You may take each D2L quiz on the Practical PC chapters twice, so if you have a typo and get a poor score... do it again

Part 2 Make a web page, Save an existing document as a web page, or save an existing document as a pdf

This last lab is designed with some flexibility, to allow you to explore areas that you enjoyed the most.

Choose ONE option from below:

 

 

 

Word Web Page Criteria
(Only do one web page project)
Note: do not try to view the zipped web page, it will not display correctly until unzipped
Do not try to edit files in a zip, locate your original files or unzip (extract)
  • Copy your lab4 resume.docx to a new lab8 folder,
  • Open your résumé, or
    create a new Word Document
  • If not your résumé, suggested topic: Why I should recommend this class
  • (50%) Shows you planned and spend time creating, and modifying, to make interesting
  • (10%) add a background color  
    (Word 2010, PageLayout tab, choose Page Color)
     
  • (15%) save your changes as yourname-web.docx
    DO NOT REPLACE YOUR ORIGINAL Résumé... create a new Word document.
    You will be submitting this new Word document as part of the lab.

    Now, to create the web page from your new Word Document.

  • Save new Word document as a web page (See illustration below)
    (Word 2007: Office Button, Save As, choose Other formats (See illustration below)
    Save as type: Single Web Page *.mht    ) (See illustration below)

    Before you click save...
    (5%) set appropriate title, (See illustration below)
    then
     Save the file as yourname-web.mht

    Save for Web Word 2007
    option 2:  Save as type web page .htm
    (This will create a folder full of files, if you choose this option, you will have to include this folder)
  • (5%) saved as yourname-web.htm
  • (15%)
    To submit, zip EVERYTHING that was used to create this web page.
    You must include
    the Word document yourname-web.doc
    the web page yourname-web.mht or
    the web page yourname-web.htm
    any folder created by Word, such as yourname-web_files

  • Rename the zipped file to yourname-lab8.zip

    (Notes on zipping below)

 

PowerPoint Web Page Criteria
(Only do one web page project)
Note: do not try to view the zipped web page, it will not display correctly until unzipped

  • Open your PowerPoint, or
    create a new PowerPoint Document, following PowerPoint Tips

  • (10%) make sure there is a background color or that you used a template 

  • (15%) save any changes as yourname-web.pptx

Real Web Page Criteria
(Only do one web page project)
  • (5%) Create a web page as described here, and save it in the lab8 folder
  • (5%) Any topic
  • (50%) Shows you planned and spend time creating
  • (10%) Interesting
    Set appropriate title
    Set background color
    Set text color
  • (5%) Include a link to a web site
  • (10%) saved as
    yourname-web.htm
  • (15%)
  • To submit, zip EVERYTHING that was used to create this web page.
    You must include
    the html document created in notepad called yourname-web.htm
    and any image(s) used

  • Rename the zipped file to yourname-lab8.zip

pdf Criteria
(Only do one web page project)
This can only be done if you have:
Office 2007 with the pdf add in (free if you have a licensed copy of Office 2007, from Microsoft)
or
if you have CuteFTP installed (free, from CutePDF)
or
if you have purchased Adobe Acrobat (not reader)
  • Open your résumé, or your Show PowerPoint, or
    create a new Office Document
  • If not your résumé, suggested topic: Why I should recommend this class

  • (50%) If using Office 2007 Add in, choose to Save as pdf, saved as yourname-lab8.pdf
    Office 2007 to pdf


  • (50%) If using CuteFTP or Acrobat, choose to PRINT
    Under Printer, Select the Name: dropdown list, and choose Adobe PDF or CutePDF
    When prompted, saved in the lab8 folder as yourname-lab8.pdf
    Print to pdf

  • (50%) Submitting original file and pdf properly: Zip the lab8 folder and its contents
  • Rename the zipped file to yourname-lab8.zip

Grading Criteria:
• Web Page or pdf (Zip the entire folder that holds the lab files) (50%)
   •web page/pdf is graded by number of points correct/number of points possible *.5
•Practical PC Quiz (50%)
   •Practical PC tracking is graded by number of points correct/number of points possible *.5
• File submitted via https://templejc.desire2learn.com/

Problems? Zip the entire folder and attach to an email:
       •Send the mail to your instructor, cc yourself
       •The subject line should include your name, your class, your section, and what you are submitting
       •Make sure you attach the zipped file

SUBMITTING THE LAB

In Windows, zip the entire lab8 directory, and rename to yourname-lab8.zip.
       •Example: yourname-lab8 or yourname-lab8.zip (if your extensions are visible)
Log into Desire2Learn, choose this class, choose Dropbox, and select Lab 8.
Browse to yourname-lab8.zip and upload it. (Scroll down to see detailed instructions)

You will then take the D2L Quiz(zes). You may use your notes for this part of lab.
Choose the Quizzes menu, and locate quiz(zes) associated with this lab.
      • Using D2L dropbox       • Using D2L Quizzes      • Logon to D2L
for Labs that require files to be electronically submitted
 • select all the files required, or better, select the folder that contains all the files
 • zip the required file(s) and/or folder(s)
 • rename the zipped file to reflect your name and the lab being turned in
       •Example: yourname-lab1 or yourname-lab1.zip (if your extensions are visible)

 If submitting by Temple College Desire2Learn:
       •Log into D2L, scroll to the bottom, and choose the correct course
       •When the Course Home Page appears, click on the desired tool link.
