   • Read Windows B (Working With Windows)
   • Read Windows C (Managing Files and Folders)

Controlling File Names
Many Windows computers are set up to hide known file extensions; this can be very confusing for computer students. To set your computer to display the entire file name:
 • Chick Start, then open My Computer or Windows Explorer (if using Vista, it is called simply Computer)
 • Choose Tools\Folder Options... (for Vista users, press the [Alt] key to reveal the Tools menu), then select Folder Options)

 • Choose the View tab
 • Click off the check mark next to 'Hide extensions for know file types'
       • Click OK

Notes of File and Folder creation
To Choose a storage location
(a place that your computer can save files and folders)
Using 'My Computer' or 'Computer,' browse to the drive you would like to save your work on
Most computers identify the hard drive as C:, a folder often used on the C: drive is My Documents (simply 'Documents' in Vista)
Most computers identify the floppy drive (if present) as A:
Most computers identify the thumb drives (if present) as E: or F:
If you are working on campus, you might use your O: drive, or your thumb drive, etc.

Recall, when using save as... you may need to click the Computer of My Computer link to browse to where you wish to save

Create a File
Right click in the Folder window, and Choose New/Text document; name it test.txt

Create a Folder
Right click in the Folder window, and Choose New/Folder to create a folder named Lab4.
(You may also wish to create folders to hold future lab materials.)

•Begin Lab 4

•Submit by 11:59 pm, Friday, of the current week (see due dates)

   • MUD 6 (My Understanding, Details) Respond in the class D2L Discussion forum to the following:
      What topics, if any, during this time frame do you feel very comfortable with? Why?
      What topics, if any, during this time frame do you not feel comfortable with?
   • Participation Discussion 6 Respond in the class D2L Discussion forum to the following:
      What is the answer to most questions in Windows? 
     • Using D2L discussions      • Logon to D2L
      • to Checklist


For the next time frame:
   •Read Windows D (Customizing File Management)
   •Read Windows E (Customizing Windows)
   •Read Windows F (Maintaining Your Computer)
•Each test has a review; you may wish to write out pertinent information from the readings and activities
