General Lab Directions
Note: There is not enough time in lecture to cover all
the material; read your book BEFORE you begin the lab
Note: Typically labs will require you to invest some time in the lab, outside
of class lecture hours

Make a folder named Lab6 on your floppy or O: drive.
Vista users: Right click here, then choose Save Target
as... to save in the Lab6 folder. Save this as yourname-lab6.docx
XP users: Right click here, then choose Save Target
as... to save in the Lab6 folder. Save this as yourname-lab6.doc
Open Word, then open yourname-lab6.doc
At the end of this process, you will be turning in answers
using the Quizzes area of Desire2Learn,
based on the following questions. So, to get the best score, fill in all the
answers in this document first.


1. True or False: a mapped network drive is a shared folder on a server that
can be accessed from your computer.
2. What is the path to your O: drive?
3. What is the generic example of a mapped network drive?
4. If you wish to make a new network drive, is there a way to locate the shared
folder available? If so, what is it?
5. What must be done if you wish to continue using this network drive?
Do not make changes to your O: drive
Add the following to an Excel Spreadsheet:

Select the cells by dragging the mouse over and down; using the chart wizard, create a pie chart; Save the worksheet as yourname-lab6.xlsx in the lab6 folder. Right click the chart, and choose copy.

Vista: Using Network, browse the Entire network. If ‘Network Discovery is turned off…’ Click the bar to change settings.
Username is: wtc522-xx-vs08\vista_user where xx is the number of your computer; Password vista_user
XP: Using My Network Places, browse the Entire network to the Microsoft Network, then to TCNET. Use Print Screen, the Edit paste that image as directed into your Word document.

In Windows, save your document as yourname-lab6.docx, zip the entire
lab6 directory, and rename
to yourname-lab6.zip.
Log into Desire2Learn, choose
this class, choose Dropbox, and select Lab 6.
Browse to yourname-lab6.zip and upload it.
You will then transfer your answers to the D2L Quiz for lab 6.
Choose the Quizzes menu, and locate Lab 6.

• rename the
zipped file to reflect your name and the lab being turned in

If submitting by Temple College Desire2Learn:
•Log into D2L, scroll to the
bottom, and choose the correct course
•When the Course Home Page appears,
click on the Dropbox link.
Dropbox directions
1. Choose the class for which you want to drop off an assignment.
2. Find the Dropbox tool, click on it.
3. Choose the appropriate Dropbox folder, click on it.
4. Choose [Add a File], then choose [Browse]; you may need to choose (My) Computer first
5. Find the file that you would like to upload and click open, then choose [Upload]
6. Type in a short description or comment about the file, if you like.
7. Select [Add] for any additional files that may be pertinent, and repeat
8. After your files have been selected, click [Upload]. (You will always click upload at least twice)
9. Some files may take a long time to upload (especially if there
are graphics in the file).
