Note: There is not enough time in lecture to cover all the material; read your book BEFORE you begin the lab
  • Check with your Instructor for due date
  • Document the required steps before you start the lab (this documentation will be turned in): 30%

p. 384 View Event 1074... Server Shutdowns
  • Log on, choose Start/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer
  • Select System, then select the Event Column
  • Double click 1074
  • Have instructor initial sheet
p. 393 Enable Remote Desktop for Administration
  • Choose Start/Control Panel/System
  • Select the Remote tab
  • Click Allow users to connect remotely to this computer
  • Click the [Select Remote User] button
  • Have instructor initial sheet
  • Choose Start/All Programs/Accessories/Communications/Remote Desktop Connection
  • Select the [Options] button
  • Explore the various settings and tabs
  • Have instructor initial sheet
p. 396 Install Terminal Services
  • Choose Start/Control Panel/Add Remove Programs
  • Select the Add/Remove Windows Components
  • Click Terminal Server
  • Explore the options available
  • Have instructor initial sheet, and Finish/Restart
  • Choose Start/Administrative Tools/Terminal Services Configuration
  • Right Click RDP-Tcp
  • Choose Use standard Windows authentication
  • Click the Logon Settings tab and choose Always prompt for password
  • Click Sessions and choose Override user settings
        End a disconnected session to 1 day     Idle session limit 2 hours

  • Explore Evironment, Remote Control, Client Settings
  • Select Network Adapter/Permissions/Remote Desktop Users
  • Click OK to close properties
p. 404 Explore Terminal Services User Account Settings
  • Log on, choose Start/Administrative Tools/Active Directory Users and Computers
  • Right click your account and choose Properties
  • Select the Terminal Services Profile, and then the Remote Control tab and enable the Administrator as shown on page 405

  • Explore the Sessions and Environment tabs, then close the properties.
p. 411 Delegation of Control Wizard
  • In Active Directory/Users and Computers, right click your IT OU and choose Delegate Control

  • Read pages 411-412 for details, then close the properties without delegating
p. 413 Installing Software Update Services
  • From Server Roles, Install IIS
  • Display the new Server Roles
