General Lab Directions
Note: There is not enough time in lecture to cover all
the material; read your book BEFORE you begin the lab
Note: Typically labs will require you to invest some time in the lab, outside
of class lecture hours
Users and Templates
- Manually add user
Specifications
- Create one user using DSADD in instructor's presence, named Kent
C Deforest
- dsadd user "cn=Kent C Deforest,cn=users,dc=your domain,[dc=522,]dc=templejc,dc=edu"
- Click Start, select Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory
Users and Computers
- Right Click the Users container, and select New, and click User
- Create one user graphically, named Warren Peese; username
wpeese, password Password1
- Right click the users and to Member of add Server Operators, not full
administrator
(in this class, all users need to be server operators or administrators
in order to 'sit at' this machine.
Note: Other DSADD options you may add:
-pwd value - memberof "cn=value" -profile "\\server\profiles\value"
-disabled no

Optional Command Line activity
Specifications
- Write a Query to list the names of all (*) users
- dsquery user
- Create a user Template
Specifications
- Right Click the Users container, and select New, and click User
- In the New Object-User dialog box, type _Template in the First name
text box
(the _ ensures the templat account appears at the top of the user listing)
- Press Tab four times to reach the User Logon name field. Type
template and choose Next.
- In the Password text box, type Password1, and again for the confirm
password.
- Right click the _Template user account, and choose Properties
- In the description text box on the General tab, type typical
user
- Click the Profile tab, for the path \\your server's name\profiles\%username%
(this will automatically create profiles based on the user name
- Click the Memberof tab and add the template as a memberof Server Operators
- Create one user via Template, named Ima Clone
Specifications
- Right click the _Template user account and click copy
- User name Ima Clone, and username iclone, password Password1
- Create another user from the template
- Now create resources and groups to test the server
- Create a folder named Faculty, and place within it a text document that
says "Faculty"
- Create a folder named Students, and place within it a text document that
says "Students"
- Create a group called Faculty (local, security)
- Create a group called Students (local, security)
Set the Faculty group up so that they have full control over both the Faculty
and Students folders.
Set the Students group so that they have full control over the Students folder,
and read only and list permissions for the Faculty Folder.
- Right click on folder, choose Properties
- Under Sharing, share the folder
- Under security, add Faculty, then set permissions
- Under security, add Students, then set permissions
- Under security, remove permissions for the generic user group
Add Ida to your student group, and your other account as faculty..
Note: record username, password, and group information in your notes

- Demonstrate that Faculty can change the text documents in both folders.
- Demonstrate that Students can change the text document in Students, but
only list and read documents in Faculty

zipped file to reflect your name and the lab being turned in

If submitting by Temple College Desire2Learn:
•Log into D2L, scroll to the bottom,
and choose the correct course
•When the Course Home Page appears,
click on the Dropbox link.

1. Choose the class for which you want to drop off an assignment.
2. Find the Dropbox tool, click on it.
3. Choose the appropriate Dropbox folder, click on it.
4. Choose [Add a File], then choose [Browse]
5. Find the file that you would like to upload and click open, then choose [Upload]
6. Type in a short description or comment about the file, if you like.
7. Select [Add] for any additional files that may be pertinent, and repeat
8. After your files have been selected, click [Upload]. (You will always click upload at least twice)
9. Some files may take a long time to upload (especially if there are graphics in the file). After the upload is complete the File Upload dialog box should appear. See the steps below to verify that your file went through.
Did my file get through? 1. Go to the Dropbox tool
2. Click the number under Submissions
3. All of the assignments that have been submitted will be listed.
• if submitting by eCampus,
by Blackboard
•Log in to your class, and Click once
on the Drop Box/Tools button
•Select the Digital Drop Box
•Select the [Add file]
• For Name,
type in the name of the lab
• For File
• [Browse...]
to the file you wish to submit,
• Choose
[Open] to select it
• For Comments,
include your name, your class, your section, and what you are submitting
•Select Submit
• if submitting by email:
•Send the mail to your instructor,
cc yourself
•The subject line should include
your name, your class, your section, and what you are submitting
•Attach the file
