General Lab Directions
Note: There is not enough time in lecture to cover all the material; read your book BEFORE you begin the lab
  • Check with your Instructor for due date
  • Document the required steps before you start the lab (this documentation will be turned in): 30%
  • Hands on Grading
    • 0 mistakes: 30%
    • 1 or 2 mistakes: 25%
    • 3 or 4 mistakes: 20%
    • 5 or 6 mistakes: 10%
  • Activity: 40%
Hardware component
  1. Start IE, go to www.microsoft.com, and Add site to Safe list
    Repeat for school, using *.templejc.edu
  2. Activate product by selecting key icon in tray, choose to activate online, but do not register

Set up Server Roles
  1. Open Manage your server
  2. Add File Server
  3. Set Disk Quotas
    • 5 MB, 1 MB warn, enforced
  4. Leave Indexing Off
  5. Create a new folder to share, called Users
  6. Set Permissions
    • Administrators have full control
    • Users have Read Write
  1. Add Active Directory
  2. Study the Security Warning, and proceed
  3. Select Domain Controller for a new Domain
  4. Select Domain in a New Forest
  5. The Full DNS name will be lastname.522.templejc.edu
  6. Accept yourname for the NetBIOS name
  7. Accept defaults for partitions, but study options for real networks
  8. Accept SysVol for the location of the database
  9. Choose I will correct the problem later by configuring DNS manually
  10. In the Real world, you will have to choose appropriate permissions
  11. Leave Password field blank (not real world option)

  12. Summarize Activity as part of documentation, paying special attention to setting up DHCP, DNS, etc
