General Lab Directions Note: There is not enough time in lecture to cover all the material; read background info BEFORE you begin the lab

- Document the required steps before you start the lab (this documentation will be turned in): 30%

- 3 or 4 mistakes: 20%
- 5 or 6 mistakes: 10%

After reviewing section 1.4.1 of the Installation guide and installation background, Using Linux, demonstrate the following:
Prepare a system inventory (see sample list)
Collect IP and networking information*
defragment the hard drive
Review FIPS and determine why it is or is not suitable for this installation
While this class will follow a very basic partition installation, consider more ideal steps:
* Use of Partition Magic and
* File Systems to include
* Number of Partitions to support
* Boot Manager options
Review README information on the Linux installation CD
Review the Installation Chapter of the Red Hat Linux Manual
Prepare a bootable installer floppy
Perform a graphical installation
Explore hard drive preparation options, but select automatic

Manual Disk Set up to allow Windows and Linux
In unused space, select New, and create the following partitions:
Install the following packages
- GNOME desktop
- Graphical and text based Web
- Sound/Video, Graphics, Games
- Server Configuration, Web Server, Windows File Server, FTP, Network Server (finger and telnet)
- Administrative, System, and Printers
Use Password1 for your administrative/root password
Add a user account for you
generic, password Password2
Later, you may add additional packages, such as producivity software
