General Lab Directions
Note: There is not enough time in lecture to cover all
the material; read your book BEFORE you begin the lab
Purpose: Capstone: To provide a practical exercise using the all the tools
presented in class, together.
This project is NOT related to the Word Lab 3 or 4, the Excel
Lab 5, and/or the PowerPoint lab 7. These are SEPERATE Word, Excel, PowerPoint
files having to do with your term paper project!.
This project is designed to allow you to reinforce your software skills, and
demonstrate proficiency in Office after your have practiced
those skills with previous labs, while you work within your field.
Requirements:
A report on any topic of your choice. Example topic choices may be:
- A topic regarding computers used in your major,
- A topic regarding computers in your business,
- Should be something that interests you, that you can research
- The paper must be typed using these guidelines:
- Title/Cover Sheet
- A 1000 word minimum (3 to 5 page) report created using Microsoft Word.
- Must be double spaced using a 12-point font and no more than 1 inch
margins.
- Must include a bibliography (called “Works Cited”) with at least three
references (sources).
- Show evidence of planning, be well written, demonstrate knowledge of
Word, saved as yourname-project.doc
• Should include your name and page number
in the header
• Should begin with an overview of what
you intend to discuss
• Should use at least one footnote for any
direct quotes or novel ideas
- The conclusion should recap the paper, and then express your opinion,
based on what you learned.

- A spreadsheet with formulas or a chart created with Microsoft Excel.
(This could show pay scales, comparison of working hours, or labor statistics
such as growth in job openings in your chosen field of interest or other
data.) Ideally, you would copy the results into your presentation, but
you must still submit the spreadsheet.
- A Microsoft PowerPoint slide presentation of six (6) or more slides
summarizing your findings.
- The PowerPoint presentation must have a title slide
- overview slide with at least three topics
- at least three slides with details on the topics
- and summary slide with overview recap, based on your paper's conclusion

- Include clip art or other source of art on at least one slide.
