- Launching Windows, view the Desktop, and the Task Bar
- Use the left mouse button to select the Start Menu, explore the submenus,
and finally select Help
- Use the left mouse button to close the Help Menu
- Double click the Internet (Internet Explorer) icon on the desktop to start
the web browser
- After locating the class web site, cycle through maximize, minimize, restore,
resize, and finally close.
- Insert your thumb drive/floppy disk, then browse to the device; note drive
letter
- Open a command window (Start/Accessories/Command Prompt,
then issue the following command: help (have
the instructor initial your lab sheet________)
- Issue the following command: exit
- Open My Computer, and browse to your storage device drive letter
- Toggle the folder view by clicking the [Folders] button, then toggle back;
explore the details area
- Right click in the drive window, and choose New\folder, naming it your
name
- Open the new folder
- Right click in the drive window, and choose New\Text document, naming it
test.txt
- Double click the file, and add your name to it. Save the file.
- Right click the file, choose copy; right click in an open section of the
drive window, and choose paste
- Right click the new copy, choose rename, and enter some other name... but
don't change the extension*
- (have the instructor initial your lab sheet________________ )
- Create a new folder called Junk
- Right click, then drag the new document to the Junk... choose move
- Start Wordpad
- Add 10 things, including your name, that you wouldn't mind sharing. See
also my Example
- Complete the Create-Edit-Format cycle
- Save the changes to a file named yourname-lab1.rtf, within the folder made
earlier. Close Wordpad.
- If you need to edit the file later, do NOT double click the icon, as Word
may open, instead of Wordpad. Instead, open WordPad, then File/Open yourname-lab1.rtf
- Click the up folder button in order to view the folder you created, the
one than contains your text document, your 10 thinks file, the junk folder,
and the copy of the text file.
- Right click this folder, choose Send To and then select Compressed
(Zipped) Folder
*Your computer may hide extensions, and differentiate file types only with
icons; if so, just ignore this part of the instruction
Print the rtf document if requested, and electronically submit the zip file;
