   • About jpeg and png
   • Comparing jpeg-png
   • From On-line book: GIMP Basics: 1.2 Loading and Saving Images
   • Optional reading: Scanners


•Activities
   • Open denmark.png, or any png image you may have, then use the GIMP to save the file as jpeg, then compare file size.
   • Open denmark.jpg, or any jpg image you may have, then use the GIMP to save the file as png, then compare file size.

Unlike other programs, a convenient feature of the Save Image dialog is that the file is automatically saved in the format specified by the extension of the typed filename. As an example, if denmark.jpg is typed, the png file will be saved in JPEG format.
