General Lab Directions
Note: There is not enough time in lecture to cover all the material; go over the reading material BEFORE you begin the lab
Note: Typically labs will require you to invest some time in the lab, outside of class lecture hours

•Note: Please read the related overview material before continuing
Check with your Instructor for due date, typically the last Friday of the semester, 11:59PM (see due dates)

 •NOTE:
    •Would you like a video on any lab 10 topic? Add to MUD 14.

   •Begin creating and testing the Lab (link to graphic construction requirements)
   •There is no quiz for this lab, but you should be able to answer questions concerning the topics covered in the Lab

You may download an acrobat or word processing document to help you with this.   

At the end of this process,
1) you will submit the web page files by zipping them, and placing them in the Desire2Learn dropbox area. Instructions on zipping are below.

     • Optional: Open/save an Acrobat pdf document to print with directions
       (get Adobe Acrobat Reader free, here)
     • Optional: Right click/save a Word docdocument to print with directions
     • Optional: Right click/save a Rich Text rtf document to print with directions

Part 1, Activity (100%):
You may download an acrobat or word processing document to help you with this.

 • Create a lab10 folder

Part One (100%)
 • Demonstrates all you have learned this semester.
    Open gimp and
     add a layer with an image or shape you have created (5%)
     add at least two more layers with a digital image on each layer (10%)
     a portion of one of the images must be made transparent (5%)
     save as 10.xcf

     Adjust the image as needed, such as brightness, contrast, scale, and update 10.xcf (20%)
     Tweak the image as needed, such as using blur, clone, paintbrush, etc., and update 10.xcf (20%)

     Add text with your name, and update 10.xcf (5 % for image)

   • Save the file for print, calling it lab10.png (10 points)
   • Save the file as an optimized jpeg format, calling it lab10.jpg (10 points)
   • Include a document that describes EVERYTHING you did to create this lab (15 points)

THIS IS NOT A 5 MINUTE LAB. YOU HAVE A FEW WEEKS, USE A FEW WEEKS!

   • BONUS POINTS (up to 5%) available if you add all of your images to a video file using Movie Maker,
     or some similar software. Save the file as lab10.avi, lab10.mov, etc.

BONUS (up to 10%)
• Download and save this video clip DSCF1087.AVI into your lab10 folder
   Divide the clip into at least two scenes
   Insert a graphic between the scenes
   Add at least one transition
   Add a title to the beginning of the movie
   Add a credit roll at the end of the movie
   Save your new movie as yourname-lab10-bonus.avi

 • Zip the lab10 folder, rename it to yourname-lab10.zip and submit in the D2L Lab 10 dropbox

 

Part 2: Hands On (00%): Be prepared to discuss/demonstrate new tools and concepts used in this lab.

There is no quiz in D2L for this lab... however items from this overview will be included in the final.

 

Problems? Zip the entire folder and attach to an email:
       •Send the mail to your instructor, cc yourself
       •The subject line should include your name, your class, your section, and what you are submitting
       •Make sure you attach the zipped file

SUBMITTING THE LAB

In Windows, zip the entire lab10 directory, and rename to yourname-lab10.zip.
       •Example: yourname-lab8 or yourname-lab10.zip (if your extensions are visible)
Log into Desire2Learn, choose this class, choose Dropbox, and select Lab 10.
Browse to yourname-lab10.zip and upload it. (Scroll down to see detailed instructions)

To submit by Temple College Desire2Learn:
       •Log into D2L, scroll to the bottom, and choose the correct course
