Research Project

 

Purpose: To provide a practical exercise using the material learned in class.

 

This research project is designed to allow you to apply and use the application software we have covered in this course. It is intended to pertain to your chosen area of study and be a reinforcing tool to help you learn and prepare for the future.

 

Requirements:

 

  1. A report on any topic of your choice.  Example topic choices may be:

A topic regarding health care such as Nutrition, Exercise, Diabetes, Hypertension, Heart Attacks, etc

A topic dealing with computers such as Email, Internet, Networks, Security

A topic dealing with the environment such as Water Conservation, Waste Control, Natural Disasters, Pollution, etc

 

The paper must be typed using these guidelines:

    1. A 3 to 5 page report created using Microsoft Word.
    2. Must be double spaced using a 12-point font.
    3. Must include a bibliography (called “Works Cited”) with at least three references (sources).  The references may come from Internet sites, Journals, Magazine articles, or Interviews.  Dictionary and Encyclopedia entries are not allowed on the Works Cited page.

 

  1. A spreadsheet with formulas using Microsoft Excel. (This could show labor statistics such as growth in job openings in your chosen field of interest or other data.)

 

  1. A Microsoft PowerPoint slide presentation of six (6) or more slides summarizing your findings.

a.   The PowerPoint presentation must have a title slide, body, and summary slide.

b.      Include clip art or other source of art on at least one slide.  Click here for PowerPoint/Presentation tips.

 

  1. Graded On:
    1. Completeness of work
    2. Style and typos
    3. Neatness
    4. Followed directions
    5. Format

    1. The following page contains a skeletal outline of the MLA (Modern Language Association) style to use as a format for your research paper.
    2. Please follow these guidelines carefully.  Failure to do so will result in a lower total score.

Works Cited

 

Works Cited is on a separate page.  Must have a minimum of three (3) references.  References may consist of magazine articles, journals, books, personal interviews, Internet sites/resources, etc.  All references must have an author.  Use proper format for citing references.

Example of Works Cited Reference:

 

Sanchez, Jesse R. “E-Reading: Shop 24 Hours a Day.” Exploring the Wide World of the Internet. 19 Sept. 2004: 15-36.

 

(Authors on the Works Cited page are listed alphabetically by last name.)
