Art Exhibition Features Work By Karen Paul-BurgesThe Temple College Art Department will open an exhibition of recent works by Central Texas artist Karen Paul-Burges on Saturday, Sept. 20.
“Fractured Pieces” is “a visual journey about what is left behind, what is left over, and what is yet to come” according to the artist’s statement. The exhibition will include approximately 30 mixed media pieces which incorporate some printmaking with collage and found objects. “My intention as an artist and a continuing student of art involves a passion and a life goal,” she said. “Upon returning to school eight years ago, I realized that being an artist was something I could no longer ignore. I could no longer put on hold my desire and passion to create.” A TC graduate, the artist received a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. She has won numerous awards including Best in Show at the 2004 Bell Fine Arts Summer Photography Competition, Best Local Artist of Taylor, and Award of Excellence in the 2005 Central Texas Art Competition. She is a member of the Women Printmakers of Austin, Greater Clay Artists Association in Austin, Cultural Activities Center, Bell Fine Arts Association and Taylor Artist Guild. In 2006, she was selected to paint “Austin Guitar,” a 10-foot guitar sculpture for a public art project sponsored by the City of Austin and Gibson Guitar.
