Admission Criteria

  1. High School Graduate or GED
  2. Attend Information Session
    • Consider taking SRGT 1301 Medical Terminology and BIO 2404 Intro to Anatomy & Physiology prior to entry into Surgical Technology Program (acceptance into program not required for courses)
  3. Complete Temple College Application and Admission Procedure
  4. Take Pre-Entrance Exam: HOBET* (Minimum scores of 59 for both Reading & Math) Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test involves measurement of essential math and reading skills. A HOBET study guide may be reviewed at the Temple College Library or purchased at the TC bookstore. Register for the test at the cashier’s office located in One College Centre. The fee is $30 The test is administered in the Temple College Testing Center and takes approx. 3 hrs. http://www.templejc.edu/student_info/TestingCtr/TestingCtr.htm
  5. *Top Eighteen Ranked Students Accepted with emphasis placed on reading scores. First testing cycle April-October with letters of acceptance mailed last working day of October. Second testing cycle, if needed, Nov.-March with letters of acceptance mailed first week of April.
  6. Complete Surgical Technology Application (Minimum Reading/Math HOBET scores required)
  7. Receive Acceptance Letter & Accept Opportunity
  8. Begin Immunizations & Complete History and Physical (Hepatitis series takes 4-6 months to complete: Deadline is Sept. 15th)
  9. Purchase Uniform and Supplies
    1. Scrub Pant and Top-Caribbean Blue (blue-green)
    2. White knee-length Lab Coat: Large enough to button closed over scrubs
    3. TC Surgical Technology Program Patch sewn to the upper left pocket area. This patch is available at the Temple College Bookstore (Student Union Building)
    4. Name Badges: TC Photo badges made in Admissions & Records
    5. Professional Eyewear (Goggles):
      May Purchase Goggles at Uniform Shop or Order Online.

  10. Once accepted, Criminal Background Check and Finger Printing will be completed which is required for entry into clinical facilities. Failure to give permission results in dismissal from Program.
  11. Receive Program Registration & Textbook Information: Attend Spring Orientation by appointment.
