Percussion Studies at Temple College are designed to:

Prepare the percussion major with the skills and performance experience needed to succeed as an educator and/or performer.

Provide many opportunities for the percussionist who is looking to enrich their musical experiences and broaden their understanding of music whether playing is their vocation or avocation.

• Introduce to the novice or beginning percussion the joys of percussion music and performance through private lessons and playing opportunities.

Percussion Performance Opportunities at Temple College

Percussion Ensemble comprises some of the finest percussion players from on campus and central Texas. Using the best percussion literature, the percussion ensemble strives to give each work an interpretation that best represents the composer's intent. Repertoire is selected to expose the performers to a wide range of musical languages, as well as a variety of technical, intellectual, and aesthetic challenges, enhancing the development of student and professional players alike. Parts are rotated from piece to piece, giving many players solo opportunities and all performers a diversity of experiences.

Applied Percussion Study at Temple College

Whether you are a beginner or an advanced percussion student, private applied percussion instruction is available in all areas of percussion. Non-majors receive half hour lessons in their area of interest. Percussion majors are required to take hour lessons every semester they are enrolled at TC. Percussion master classes are held periodically to introduce to the percussionist matters and topics of interest that relate to the world of percussion. Topics such as percussion maintenance, research, changing timpani heads, tuning drums, percussion education, are areas open for discussion.
