Humanities   Two courses at Temple College address the relationship between the fine arts and cultural development. Introduction to the Humanities identifies the unique facets of each of the fine and performing arts. As the students increase their aesthetic vocabularies, they begin to discover the sources of many of America's modern cultural assumptions and traditions. By looking at our culture objectively, students begin to evaluate the arts as expressions of cultural identity and catalysts for change. Comparative Cultural Studies offers a directed study experience in which each student investigates a culture other than his/her own with emphasis on that culture's creative arts traditions. Through research, discussion, and oral presentation the students share their discoveries and begin the challenging process of evaluating their personal assumptions (and perhaps even prejudices) of cultures outside their personal experience.
