There will be at 10 assignments as part of this course.  Many will be short, look-up an article and share your opinion, tasks.  I will collect the URL that you supplied along with your comments and share them with the class.  Other assignments will include on-line study guides and quizzes found at the web site for the book.  These will be supplemented with questions (short essay and definitions) from me.  Students will be assigned or can choose articles or topics for short papers.

Course Description/Objectives

This course is a geographic survey of the major components of human culture, including forms of livelihood, religion and language. An introduction to concepts related to the study of folk and popular culture, and settlement patterns are part of the course content.  This course is the second part of the geography introductory courses and serves as a companion to Physical Geography.

Course Policies

Attendance, Lateness

Class attendance (or participation) is very important.  Missing more than one week of class (2 class periods) and assignments will result in a letter grade penalty.  Always try talk to the instructor in advance should you need to be absent or miss assignments..  Students are expected to be on time to class and with assignments.  If you miss a class, email me or call.  Reasonable excuses may be accepted.

Class Participation

Students are expected to be very active participants in class discussions and activities.  I stress participation as a way of challenging students to develop their own opinions and ideas.  Email me often during the class.  For internet students this is a requirement.  I will also be happy to call and talk about any topics if you need some extra help.  If you do not ask, you will never get the help you need.  Feel free to contact me.

Academic Dishonesty

Cases of academic dishonesty on exams or class assignments will be referred to the Vice President of Student Services for disciplinary action.  The Student Handbook states the College's rules and policies on this matter.  Do not use the web as a “cut and paste” chop shop.  Do your own work.  Anyone caught cheating or plagiarizing will fail the course.
