The Department of Labor's Registered Apprenticeship program is a highly flexible training model that combines on-the-job training, mentoring and related classroom instruction to develop a workforce in areas where serious labor and skill shortage exists. In an Apprenticeship program, not only do paid employees receive technical and practical training, but employers have a model to establish the standards of proficiency required of its professionals.
The time requirements and substance of an apprenticeship training program are dependent on the occupation. Apprentices work and learn under the direction of qualified employers/mentors who are experienced in their professional field. Over time, apprentices are provided diverse and complex training that helps them become highly skilled in their chosen careers.
Registered Apprenticeship is another strategy chosen by the Texas Bioscience Institute to address the workforce needs of a rapidly growing research community.
