Course Communication/Internet Access: this is a WEB ENHANCED class using Temple
College’s Desire2Learn for exams, quizzes, homework, communications and grading. I will communicate with the class members while in class as well as via the D2L website and their TC email address.  The learners are expected to login to their TC email and D2L on a daily basis.  On D2L they should read the ‘News’ items on both the D2L login page as well as the Course Homepage. DO NOT use D2L’s email.

Text: Anatomy Physiology: the unity of form and function, 4th Ed. Saladin.

Includes KEYs to Charts and Models.

2. Recommended materials:

3. Exams:

D. Drawings made by student and labeled
E. Discussions

Exams – at least part will be ONLINE at D2L, therefore, the student must know how to use D2L.  For the online portion, the student will have a 5-7 day window in which to take the exam.

The student will have to read and complete online chapter quizzes prior to taking an online exam.  The chapter quizzes that must be completed are listed in the description of each exam on D2L.

ONLINE EXAMS: D2L will be used for the multiple choice/multiple select type questions –in which the learner merely has to recognize the answer.  The student will have a 5-7 day window in which to take the exam.

INCLASS EXAMS will consist of essays and conceptual questions in which the student must demonstrate integration and synthesis of the information.

NOTE! Although each exam focuses on the current topic, each exam IS ALSO comprehensive for the materials already covered. The last semester exam WILL be comprehensive.

Laboratory exam questions will pertain to models/charts; 35-mm slides/power point and Structures/anatomy listed in the Lab Manual. There are ONLINE as wells as INCLASS lab exams and exercises.

Daily/weekly Quizzes – based on the current and previous topics and will occur at any point during the class period, either written or verbal.

NOTE: A&P2 will have an Online AP1 REVIEW exam that must be completed, on D2L, within the first 2 weeks of the semester.

4. Grading: Semester Grading is on a total points basis with the following requirements:

90% to 100% (of total points) = A
80% to 89% = B
70% to 79% = C
60% to 69% = D

Exams = 75%, Quizzes =15%, and Attendance = 10% of total course grade.

The lowest grade in each category will be dropped at the end of the semester.

5. Amending of grades: No curve as such will be applied to the grades. Grades may be (at teacher discretion) amended by the teacher via two methods.

First method: add equal points to each paper to bring the class average up to 70%.

Second method: Add equal points to each paper to bring the highest grade to a higher percentage.

*****Make-up Exams: DO NOT MISS AN EXAM! *****

Make-up exams will be 100% comprehensive, given at my convenience, may require you to travel to TC Temple, are usually more difficult.

Daily QUIZZES will NOT be made up - you take a 0 (zero) for that quiz!

Course grade notification – grades will be available on TConnect.  Old Tests will be held for 1 semester, and then discarded.

6. *****Attendance*****: will be recorded during the class period - Present or Absent – no in between. If you leave class early, for whatever reason, you MAY be counted absent. You are responsible for all material whether in class or not.

You may miss one three-hour class session w/o grade penalty. If you stop attending class, YOU are responsible for Dropping the class. Do not come to a test late. If I have started an oral exam, I will not start over to accommodate you.

Do not leave during the lab. This is hands-on, group study time. I give quizzes during this time. You are expected to use the models/charts, in addition to the book illustrations.

7. Additional comments: I am very concerned about your progress in this class. I will be available for consultation 30 minutes before/after class, by email or phone and by appointment. The best is email - ralph.hicks@templejc.edu. Don’t hesitate to come and get help. Come discuss any problem pertaining to the course, or just come in and get to know your instructor.

In addition, I will know each of you in the class. BUT when we run into each other years later in the community, other places, graduation, etc, please remind me your name and the class you attended.
