FAQ's:

1. How do I attend orientation for the class?

     The orientation is online.

2. How do I email the instructor?

My email address in on the course syllabus (jason.locklin@templejc.edu).

3. Is the online General Biology I course the same as the regular General Biology I course?

Yes.  The material is the same but  we only meet once/week for lab and the reading assignments and lecture files constitute the course lecture.

5.  Is lab required for this course?

Yes.  Currently lab is required and meets once/week on the Temple College main campus.

6.  How much study time will this course require?

The class will require at least 6-10 hours study per week depending on how fast you study and your science background.  If your personal schedule is such that you do not have these hours to study - then you should sign up for the traditional course.

7.  Do I have to take the test at the Temple College Testing Center?

Not necessarily.  If you live away from the Temple area and have access to a testing center that I can approve, you may take the exams there.  If you are interested in using another testing center, contact me with the name of the center, address, phone number, and hours of operation.

8.  Do I have to buy a new textbook?

No.  If used textbooks are available, buy them!  They must be the current edition, however.

9.  Do I have to buy a new lab manual?

Yes.  You must have a new lab manual since data we collect this semester in the lab will be directly written in it.  You will also turn in your lab manual at the end of the semester for a checkoff (I will return them to you since they will also be used for General Biology II).

10.  Since this is an online course, are there deadlines?

Yes.  Previous online student of Biology 1406 highly recommended that deadlines be in place.  Therefore, all assignments/exams/lab reports have deadlines.  This policy is in place to prevent students from slipping behind.

11. What kinds of assignments are used to determine grades?

Grades are calculated from a variety of sources: exams, weekly quizzes, lab reports, etc.

12.  What is the best approach for studying each topic?

FIRST - Read the assigned pages in the textbook for the topic.  Take notes as you read.

SECOND - View the lecture online and take notes.

THIRD - IF YOU WANT - Work through the "Chapter Activities" online.
